AN INTRODUCTION 

 

                On 19th July, 1984 by the then Prime Minister, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi laid the foundation to establish the factory for indigenous production of Infantry Combat Vehicles (ICVs) at Yeddumailaram in Medak District. Ordnance Factory Medak produces one of the best Infantry Combat Vehicles in the world known as SARATH for the Indian Army. The first chariot of factory SARATH rolled out of the woods of Yeddumailaram in the year 1987. The diversified product mix of BMP, CMT, MPV and Bullet proofing Vehicles – Ambassador Cars, Maruti Gypsy, Tata-407, Tata Safari, Mahindra Nissan, Shatrugan have been supplied by O.F Medak to Defence Forces and Police Forces in the country and also outside the country. It was sensitive to the policy of the customers to meet their requirements. In the last few years with its R & D efforts, it has developed and established a number of variants for both Army, Police and Paramilitary Forces. Three types of Bullet Proof Vehicles are developed to have protection against 9 mm carbine for AK-47 and 7.62mm SLR depending upon the level of protection required. It has high mobility to cater for cross-country conditions.

 

             O.F Medak is the country’s top manufacturer among all the Ordnance Factories located across the length and breadth of the country producing an array of Mine and Bullet Proof Vehicles, Ambassador Car, Maruti Gypsy, TATA-407 and Tata  Safari for use by State Police and Para-Military Forces and ICVs to Indian Army.
